Our in-ground hot tub covers are made-to-order insulated foam-core covers for built-in spas. Each cover is built from the measurements and options you submit to fit a recessed or in-deck installation.
These in ground spa covers can suit a concrete or plaster opening, as well as an acrylic spa shell set into a deck or concrete surface. A properly fitted insulated cover helps limit heat loss, evaporation, leaves, and weather exposure between soaks.
How In-Ground Spa Covers Differ From Standard Above-Ground Covers
The basic construction of a replacement hot tub cover may be similar in both installations. An in-ground spa changes how the cover is measured, supported, secured, opened, and stored.
The Cover Must Rest Securely on the Coping or Deck
An above-ground acrylic spa usually has a raised rim that supports the cover. A concrete or plaster spa may have only coping or deck space around the opening, so the cover must be sized to rest on that finished surface.
The amount of support needed depends on the opening and surrounding deck. Use the measuring guidance below instead of assuming that your old cover has the right finished size.
In-Ground Covers Are Often Ordered Without a Skirt
A skirt is the fabric that hangs from the edge of a spa cover. Flush concrete or plaster installations often do not need a skirt because the cover rests directly on the coping or deck.
An acrylic shell set into a deck may still use a skirt. Measure from the top of the shell to the deck and make the skirt about ¼ inch shorter so it does not bunch against the deck or prevent the cover from seating correctly.
Fold Direction, Handles, and Storage Require Extra Planning
Plan the fold direction before you order your replacement in ground hot tub cover. The folded cover needs a clear path away from walls, rails, planters, and other deck features, and the handles must be easy to reach from the deck.
Thicker or denser foam can add useful insulation and support, but it also adds weight. Pick a clean, stable place to set the cover off the ground, and never drag it across concrete, lean it against sharp surfaces, or lift it by the skirt or straps.
If you want help moving the cover, confirm that the lifter’s mount type, size limits, and clearance requirements suit your installation. Undermount models generally need space beneath an above-ground spa, while the Cover Valet CV250 can mount directly to a deck and may suit some recessed setups. How to Measure an In-Ground Hot Tub for a Replacement Cover
Accurate measurements protect the fit, support, and everyday use of your new cover. Review our measuring tips before you submit an order, especially if the spa opening is recessed or has cut corners.
Concrete or Plaster Spas Without an Acrylic Rim
Measure the actual spa opening from one inside edge to the opposite inside edge. Then add at least 6–8 inches to the total length and width, which gives about 3–4 inches of supporting overlap on every side.
For example, a 70 × 80-inch opening would generally need a finished 78 × 88-inch cover. Those order dimensions describe the finished in ground spa cover, not only the water opening.
Inset Acrylic Spas Installed in a Deck
For an acrylic spa shell set into a deck, measure the full outside dimensions of the shell or rim. Do not use the interior water opening, because the cover needs to sit on and cover the acrylic rim correctly.
If you want a skirt, measure from the top of the shell to the deck. We recommend making the skirt about ¼ inch shorter than that distance so it does not bunch against the deck.
Irregular Shapes and Templates
Rounded corners, cut corners, and asymmetrical openings need more than a general shape name. We may need accurate dimensions and a physical template to make an irregularly shaped hot tub cover that rests and seals correctly.

Choose the Right Cover Construction for Your Climate and Installation
The configurator lets you choose a foam height, foam density, material, and upgrades based on your climate, spa use, handling needs, and deck setup. Consider these factors together rather than relying on R-value alone.
Select a Foam Height
Available tapered foam heights include the 2–4-inch Basic, 3–5-inch Thick, and 4–6-inch Extra-Thick options. The taper helps rainwater run off, while a thicker option can provide greater insulation and support.
Foam thickness does not make this standard cover walk-on rated.
Select a Foam Density
We offer 1, 1.5, and 2-pound foam densities. Higher-density foam provides greater strength but also adds weight, which matters when lifting and storing an in-ground cover.
Choose Your Cover Material
Marine-grade vinyl is available in multiple colors and is treated with UV and mildew inhibitors. SpotHyde™ is available as a fabric upgrade that is 25% lighter and more resistant to tears, punctures and abrasion. Consider Heat- and Moisture-Protection Upgrades
The Dual Extreme Vapor Barrier adds moisture protection around the foam, and a Full-Length Steam Stopper can help reduce heat loss along the hinge area. Every cover also includes a solid ThermaSeal liner as standard.
For handling, a reinforced hinge — standard on every cover — supports compatible cover-lifter use, and extra or rubber-grip handles may make a cover easier to manage from deck level. These upgrades serve different needs and do not guarantee a specific energy saving or service life.
Made-to-Order Production, Shipping, Returns, and Warranty
Every custom cover is made to your submitted specifications. Production generally takes about 10–25 business days, depending on the season, with an average of about 10–12 business days; after shipment, transit usually takes about 1–4 weeks.
Free standard shipping applies to most ZIP codes in the contiguous United States, although some remote, rural, or congested metropolitan destinations may incur additional charges. Alaska and Hawaii require an additional shipping quote. Covers cannot ship to PO boxes, so please review our shipping policy before ordering.
Custom covers are final sale and cannot be returned because we make them to your specifications. If there is a manufacturing issue, contact us promptly; our return policy and warranty explain the process, exclusions, and freight terms.
The limited warranty covers eligible defects in materials and workmanship for the original purchaser: five years for the cover skin and one year for the foam core. Exclusions and customer-paid freight terms apply, so review the complete warranty before ordering.

A custom cover cap fits over the rigid spa cover and adds another layer against UV exposure, dirt, rain, and snow. It does not replace the insulated cover below it.
Add a Floating Spa Blanket for Heat Retention
Floating solar and thermal blankets rest on the water beneath the rigid cover. They may help reduce evaporation and heat loss while limiting direct chemical exposure to the cover’s underside. Choose a blanket that fits—or can be trimmed to—the spa’s water surface.

How much should an in-ground spa cover overlap the opening?
For concrete or plaster spas without an acrylic rim, we recommend about 3–4 inches of overlap on each side. That means adding roughly 6–8 inches to the total length and width of the opening.
Does an in-ground spa cover need a skirt?
Not always. Flush concrete or plaster installations are often ordered without a skirt, while an inset acrylic spa may use one sized from the shell-to-deck measurement.
Can you make a cover for an irregularly shaped in-ground spa?
Yes, we can make a cover for many irregular in-ground spa openings. Accurate dimensions and, in some cases, a physical template are required before production.
Is this a walk-on cover or a swimming-pool safety cover?
No. This standard product is neither a walk-on hot tub cover nor a swimming-pool safety cover, and it is not a substitute for barriers, supervision, or applicable safety requirements.
Do not walk, stand, or sit on the cover. Keep excessive rainwater, snow, and other weight off its surface to prevent damage.
Can I order an in-ground cover larger than 96 inches?
